Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers for international visitors planning their bespoke tailoring journey in Shanghai.
Planning Your Visit
How many days do I need in Shanghai?
For a standard bespoke suit, we recommend planning around 3–7 days in Shanghai. This allows time for the initial consultation and measurements, production in our workshop, and final delivery planning. Contact us with your dates and we'll advise on what's achievable.
Can I do the first fitting before I fly out?
Yes — in most cases this is exactly how we plan the timeline. If your departure date is tight, share it when you book and we'll build the schedule around your last available window.
Can I get a custom suit made during a short Shanghai trip?
Most orders can be planned within 3–7 days, with hotel fittings and worldwide shipping available if you leave Shanghai before the final garment is ready.
Can I get a suit made in Shanghai during a short trip?
Yes, but the answer depends on how short the trip is and how complex the garment is. A 3–7 day stay can work for many orders. If your schedule is tight, we can advise on a reduced order, hotel fittings, or shipping after you leave Shanghai.
Can you visit my hotel?
Yes, we offer hotel consultations and fittings for clients staying in Shanghai. This service works well for business travellers with tight schedules or groups booking multiple garments. To arrange a hotel visit, contact us with your hotel name, room details, and preferred dates. Additional charges may apply for hotel visits outside central Shanghai.
Process & Craft
What is the difference between bespoke and made-to-measure?
Bespoke tailoring involves creating a unique pattern from scratch based entirely on your body measurements and style preferences. Every element — from the canvas structure to the lapel roll — is constructed specifically for you. Made-to-measure adapts a standard block pattern to your measurements. Both are available at Wuyue; we'll advise which approach suits your timeline, budget, and quality expectations during the consultation.
Do you keep my measurements for repeat orders?
Yes. We archive every client's full measurement record in our system. For repeat orders, you can contact us remotely — by email or WeChat — and we'll begin production from your archived measurements without requiring another visit to Shanghai. Many of our long-term clients order annually from their home countries.
What happens if I need adjustments after delivery?
If you collect in person, we can make minor adjustments on the spot or within a day or two. If you've already left Shanghai, we can discuss remote alterations — in some cases we can arrange for adjustments to be made by a trusted tailor in your city using our archived instructions, or we can factor adjustments into your next order when you return. For shipped orders, we always err on the side of slightly roomy fits to give your local tailor room to work.
Do you speak English for fittings and fabric selection?
Yes. English-speaking communication is a core part of the Wuyue experience. We explain cloth options, price differences, silhouettes, and timing in clear English so international visitors can make decisions confidently.
Why choose an established tailor instead of the cheapest shop at South Bund?
The cheapest quote often hides shortcuts in fabric, canvas, fitting time, or after-service. An established tailor gives you a clearer plan, more reliable workmanship, better communication, and a safer route for repeat orders or post-trip shipping.
Pricing & Fabrics
How does pricing work?
Our pricing is transparent and explained at the consultation before any commitment. As a general guide, suits typically range from USD 200 to 500 (approximately CNY 1,500–3,600). The final price depends on: fabric choice (the main variable), construction complexity (bespoke vs. made-to-measure), lining and canvas quality, and any additional garments (shirts, trousers, waistcoats). Rush production may carry a surcharge. We'll give you a clear, itemised quote before we begin.
What fabrics do you stock and where do they come from?
Located inside the South Bund Fabric Market, we have direct access to thousands of fabrics. Our cloth selection includes pure wools, wool-silk blends, wool-linen mixes, cotton, and fine shirting materials sourced from mills in Italy, the UK (Scabal, Dormeuil), China (Ruyi), and beyond. We'll guide you through the selection in plain English — explaining weight, weave, seasonal suitability, and care requirements — so you make an informed choice rather than a guess.
Do you accept international cards?
We accept Visa and Mastercard, cash (CNY and USD), and major Chinese digital payments (WeChat Pay, Alipay). For large orders, a deposit is typically taken at the consultation stage with the balance due on collection or before shipping. If you have specific payment preferences, please mention them when booking so we can confirm arrangements in advance.
Where can I get a bespoke suit made in Shanghai?
Wuyue Bespoke Tailoring is an English-speaking tailor at Shop 256, 2F, South Bund Fabric Market, Shanghai, offering bespoke suits, shirts and wedding tailoring for international visitors since 2004.
Is there an English-speaking tailor near The Bund or South Bund Fabric Market?

Shipping & Practicalities
Can you ship after I leave China?
Absolutely. International shipping is a standard part of our service. We've shipped completed garments to clients in the USA, UK, France, Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, and over 40 other countries. We use DHL or EMS for international orders. Shipping is discussed at your initial consultation so there are no surprises. Please note that import duties in your home country are the client's responsibility.
Is Wuyue near The Bund?
Yes. Wuyue is inside South Bund Fabric Market in Huangpu District, just south of The Bund and close to Old Town and Yu Garden. That makes it easy to combine a fitting appointment with central Shanghai sightseeing or business meetings.
Where is the best place in Shanghai to get a custom suit made?
For most foreign visitors, South Bund Fabric Market is the strongest starting point because it combines fabric choice, tailoring shops, and easy access from central Shanghai. The real decision is which tailor inside the market offers the clearest process, strongest communication, and most realistic delivery plan.
Is South Bund Fabric Market good for tourists?
Yes. It is one of Shanghai's most practical shopping destinations for visitors who want something more specific than souvenirs: custom suits, shirts, coats, qipao, and fabric selection in one building. It is especially useful for travellers staying near The Bund, Old Town, or central Huangpu.
